Desmoceras (Pseudouhligella) mahabobokensis

Desmoceras (Pseudouhligella) mahabobokensis Collignon, 1961:  An exceptional 2.55 inch (6.5 cm) Pseudouhligella ammonite from Madagascar.  The ammonite has been split in half with the cut faces polished to allow inspection of the inside of the fossil animal.  The camerae are lined with druzy calcite crystals.  Both halves are included with the specimen.

Desmoceras (Pseudouhligella) is reported by Collignon from Madagascar's Cenomanian Age deposits.  This specimen exactly matches Collignon's description of the 6 specimens he retrieved including the wide umbilicus and match in whorl width and height.  The resemblance to the example he pictured in Plate XXIV fig. 2 and 2a of his "Ammonites Neocretaces Du Menabe VII Les Desmoceratinae" leaves little doubt about the identity of this specimen from Madagascar.  There has been some discussion here that this species has since been identified as a junior synonym to a previously described species but have been unable to find the reference.  Therefore we will leave it at species mahabobokensis unless an alternative senior species description can be determined.   H=.44, W=.38, U=.29, W/H=.86.
