Mesosiderite: An 8.4 gram end cut slice of the NWA 1827 mesosiderite purchased in Rissani, Morocco in June 2003.
This has been classified as a Subgroup 2C mesosiderite that is apparently paired with NWA 1879, NWA 1951, NWA 1979, NWA 1982, and NWA 2019. The NWA 1827 specimen weighed 877 grams. The assumed total known weight of this mesosiderite is thought to exceed 22 kilograms.
Classification by A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS and T. Bunch NAU): Igneous texture, mostly medium-grained but with some large mineral clasts of orthopyroxene and plagioclase (commonly surrounded by metal-rich areas). Resembles a metal rich diogenite. This is thought to be part of a large heterogenous mesosiderite with a total weight over 22 kilograms. Tentative assignment is class C containing sparse eucritic and diogenic clasts.
