Cymatoceras sakalavum (Collignon, 1949):
A split and polished, about 2.5" (6.3 cm) Cymatoceras sakalavum Nautilus from Madagascar. This split nautilus has been polished to reveal the internal details of the shell. The central 'nautiloid' position of the siphuncle is clear in this excellent example. Family Cymatoceratidae is the most common of the Cretaceous nautiloids. They lived from the Middle Jurassic through the Oligocene.
