Douvilleiceras mammillatum Grossouvre, 1894: This is a beautifully prepared
Douvilleiceras ammonite from Madagascar. The specimen has been cut in half with the cut faces polished to show the interior structure of the animal. The septal cavities are lined with druzy calcite crystals. Each half measures about 2.55 inches (6.5 cm) across, both halves are included. This heavily ribbed specimen weighs about 4 ounces. Note: One half has a perforate umbilicus with minor repairs. The price reflects this minor damage.
Douvilleiceras ammonites lived during the Cretaceous lower to middle Albian age. They are found in Europe,
Madagascar, Egypt (Sinai), India, Siberia, USA, Peru, and Columbia.
This specimen closely resembles the
Douvilleiceras pictured in fig. 209 (2a) of the Treatise On Invertebrate Paleontology, L Mollusca (Revised).
