Desmoceras (Desmoceras) latidorsatum (Michelin) var. inflata: This is a beautifully prepared ammonite from Madagascar with further prep. here at Manzanita Lab. The specimen has been cut in half with the cut faces polished to show the interior structure of the animal. The camerae are lined with druzy calcite crystals. Each half measures about 2 inches (5.2 cm) across, both halves are included. This specimen weighs about 3 ounces. The shape of the conch and Cretaceous age suggest this is an example of
Desmoceras latidorsatum var inflata, a species found in Madagascar's Cretaceous sediments.
