Desmoceras (Pseudouhligella) sp.

Desmoceras (Pseudouhligella) sp. (Matsumoto, 1938):  This is a beautifully prepared ammonite from Madagascar.  The specimen has been cut in half with the cut faces polished to show the interior structure of the animal.  The camerae are lined with druzy calcite crystals.  This extraordinary fossil ammonite has the body chamber preserved, the last large chamber is filled with silt as it was open to the sea.  This is the area where the animal actually lived. The shape of the conch suggests that this is an example of Desmoceras Pseudouhligella.   Each half measures about 2 inches (5.1 cm) across, both halves are included.  This specimen weighs about 3 ounces.
