4.5 inch Manticoceras

Manticoceras sp. Hyatt, 1884;  Approximate dimensions: 4.5" (11.4 cm) x 3.5" (8.9 cm) x 1.6" (4.1 cm) polished fossil ammonoid weighing 15 ounces.  This is the largest decent grade Moroccan palaeoammonoid we have seen in a while.  The suture pattern and shape of the conch suggest that this is an example of Manticoceras.  That would place it in Family Gephuroceratidae Frech 1901, Suborder Anarcestina Miller & Furnish, 1954 .

Ref. pp. L33 Fig. 30(B) Treatise On Invertebrate Paleontology, Part L -- Mollusca 4  (1957).

This is an Upper Devonian age fossil ammonoid from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco that was prepared in Morocco.
